Houston Astros vs Seattle Mariners July 19, 2025 Recap

Rookie second baseman Cole Young hit a walk-off single in the 11th inning to give the Seattle Mariners a 7-6 victory over the Houston Astros on Saturday night. Young — who also delivered a game-ending fielder’s choice in the 11th inning of his major league debut — provided some more late-night theatrics in the Emerald City. Just a couple weeks shy of his 22nd birthday, Young went below the zone to drive a splitter from reliever Hector Neris (3-2) into right field, scoring automatic runner Dominic Canzone from third base. Though the Mariners jumped out to a 4-1 lead after just three innings, their advantage disappeared once Seattle reliever Carlos Vargas lost control of his sinker in the sixth. He plunked two batters, first Brice Matthews and then Zack Short, which led to warnings being issued to both benches. Jose Altuve, Victor Caratini and Christian Walker all added RBI singles shortly afterward to put the Astros up 5-4. The Mariners evened it in the eighth thanks to a fortuitous bou...

Milwaukee Brewers vs Los Angeles Dodgers July 19, 2025 Recap

Freddy Peralta won his seventh straight start, Isaac Collins and Joey Ortiz homered, and the Milwaukee Brewers held off the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-7 on Saturday night to extend their win streak to a season-best nine. Shohei Ohtani hit his National League-leading 33rd homer and drove in three runs for the Dodgers. Tommy Edman and Miguel Rojas both went deep in the eighth to pull the NL West leaders to 8-7. But then Ohtani’s flyball died on the warning track to end the eighth, and Trevor Megill threw a 1-2-3 ninth for his 23rd save as Los Angeles lost for the ninth time in 11 games. Milwaukee improved to 5-0 against the defending World Series champions, including a three-game sweep at home last week. Peralta (12-4) wasn’t particularly sharp, giving up four runs and five hits in five innings as his ERA rose from 2.66 to 2.85. But the Brewers tacked on three insurance runs to maintain the lead after he exited, and the All-Star right-hander became the first 12-game winner in the majors. Afte...

Minnesota Twins vs Colorado Rockies July 19, 2025 Recap

Ezequiel Tovar hit a three-run homer to break a fifth-inning tie and the Colorado Rockies won a home series for the first time since late last season with a 10-6 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Saturday night. Hunter Goodman had three hits, the last a two-run homer in the eighth, and Ryan McMahon homered for the second straight game. The Rockies also have won two straight home games for the first time this season. The Rockies had lost 17 straight home series, the final two last season and the first 15 this season. At 24-74, they remain on pace to set a major league season record for losses. Antonio Senzatela (4-13) gave up three runs in the second inning but faced only one batter over the minimum in the next five, going seven innings for the first time this season. Senzatela, who leads the major leagues in losses, gave up five hits and struck out three with one walk. He used an economical 78 pitches. Kody Clemens had a double and a triple for the Twins, who have lost 12 of their la...

Saskatchewan Roughriders vs BC Lions July 19, 2025 Recap

Aiming to bounce back after a loss at home in Week 6, Trevor Harris and the Saskatchewan Roughriders took down the BC Lions on Saturday evening. Harris completed big play after big play in a lights out offensive performance, claiming a 33-27 win to stay perfect on the road. Coming off a monster 425-yard performance in last week’s loss to the Calgary Stampeders, Harris put up big-time numbers yet again in an important road win for Saskatchewan. He finished just shy of another 400-yard outing, going 23-30 for 395 passing yards, three touchdowns, and an interception. Dohnte Meyers was the standout Rider receiver on the day, grabbing all seven of his targets for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Saskatchewan was able to reestablish the ground game after a quiet outing against Calgary as running back A.J. Ouellette rushed for 72 yards on 15 attempts. He also caught a touchdown in the first quarter. Nathan Rourke and the BC offence had their moments on Saturday but they were ultimately unable to...

New York Yankees vs Atlanta Braves July 19, 2025 Recap

Trent Grisham hit a tiebreaking grand slam with two outs in the ninth inning and the New York Yankees rallied from five runs down to beat the Atlanta Braves 12-9 on Saturday night before a crowd of 42,530, the largest this season at Truist Park. Anthony Volpe homered twice and finished with four RBI for the Yankees, including a tying shot in the eighth. Cody Bellinger went deep in the seventh to help New York stop a three-game slide. Braves closer Raisel Iglesias (4-6), who hadn't given up a run in 15 appearances, allowed a leadoff double to Paul Goldschmidt in the ninth. One out later, Aaron Judge was intentionally walked and Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk that loaded the bases. Jazz Chisholm Jr. lined out to third base, but Grisham drove a 1-1 slider to right-center for a 12-8 lead. Luke Weaver (2-3) earned the win with 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief. Devin Williams gave up a run in the ninth before closing it out. Ozzie Albies knocked in five runs for Atlanta, including his se...

ST Louis Cardinals vs Arizona Diamondbacks July 19, 2025 Recap

Eugenio Suárez homered twice, Corbin Carroll had two triples and the Arizona Diamondbacks cruised to a 10-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday. Suárez has five multi-homer games this season, including a four-homer night April 26. Carroll leads the big leagues with 12 triples. The 34-year-old Suárez is in an intriguing spot as the trade deadline approaches. The All-Star third baseman has 33 homers and is arguably the best power bat on the market, but it's unclear if the D-backs will be buyers or sellers considering their 49-50 record is still on the fringe of the National League playoff race. Suarez's 18 homers since June 1 are the most in the big leagues. D-backs righty Ryne Nelson (6-2) had a quality start, giving up one run on four hits over six innings. The D-backs jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning after Carroll hit a leadoff triple and Geraldo Perdomo brought him home with a single. Josh Naylor reached on catcher's interference with two outs and Sua...

Boston Red Sox vs Chicago Cubs July 19, 2025 Recap

All-Star Pete Crow-Armstrong hit his 26th homer, one of five solo shots for the Cubs to back seven sharp innings by Shota Imanaga, and Chicago beat the Boston Red Sox 6-0 on Saturday night. Michael Busch, Kyle Tucker, Matt Shaw and Ian Happ also connected for the Cubs, who moved a season-best 20 games over .500 and have the best record in the majors at 59-39. Imanaga (7-3) allowed five hits, struck out five, walked one and lowered his ERA to 2.40. The 31-year-old, second-year left-hander from Japan improved to 22-6 in the majors. Busch and Tucker led off the game with back-to-back homers against Brayan Bello (6-4). Shaw had a pinch-hit homer in the seventh against reliever Chris Murphy, and Crow-Armstrong and Happ went back-to-back against Murphy in the eighth. Brad Keller struck out the side in the eighth and Ryan Brasier worked the ninth for his first save since 2023 with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Shea Langeliers, Jacob Wilson and Nick Kurtz homered in the final two innings to help the Athletics pull away for an 8-2 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday night. Luis Severino (3-11) gave up three hits in five innings for the win — allowing only José Ramírez's two-run homer in the third. All three of Severino's wins have come on the road. Jack Perkins struck out three in three scoreless innings and Justin Sterner pitched the ninth to close it out. Nolan Jones had a two-out single off Severino in the third before scoring on Ramírez's 19th home run for a 2-0 lead. Ramírez is 6 for 14 with four homers against Severino in his career. Brent Rooker, Kurtz and Langeliers hit three straight doubles to start the fourth against Logan Allen (6-8), tying the score. Miguel Andujar singled for a fourth consecutive A's hit and a 3-2 lead. Allen allowed three runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. Kurtz led off the eighth against Nic Enright with another double and Langel...

Detroit Tigers vs Texas Rangers July 19, 2025 Recap

Kumar Rocker took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and Rowdy Tellez hit a three-run home run in his second game with the Rangers as Texas beat the slumping Detroit Tigers 4-1 on Saturday night. Rocker (4-4) pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing only Wenceel Pérez's two-out single in the sixth that was pulled down the first-base line on an 0-2 cut fastball that was low and inside. The rookie struck out five and walked three, throwing 96 pitches, one shy of his career high. The Rangers won for the sixth time in their last eight games despite having only four hits. At 50-49, they’re over .500 for the first time since being 25-24 on May 20. Riley Greene broke up the shutout bid with a ninth-inning home run. The Tigers still have the best record in the AL at 59-40 even though they have lost a season-high six consecutive games. They were held to three hits after getting four in Friday night’s 2-0 defeat. Rocker came off a July 9 no-decision against the Los Angeles Angels in which he matched a...

Baltimore Orioles vs Tampa Bay Rays July 19, 2025 Recap

Chandler Simpson had a tying RBI single and scored the go-ahead run on Ryan O’Hearn's throwing error in a three-run eighth inning in the Tampa Bay Rays' 4-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night. Tampa Bay rallied after Seranthony Domínguez replaced Baltimore starter Dean Kremer to begin the eighth inning with the Orioles leading 2-1. Ha-Seong Kim had a leadoff single and a steal and scored on Simpson's single to center. Simpson stole second and advanced to third when José Caballero walked on a wild pitch. Caballero stole his 32nd base — tops in the majors — and Gregory Soto replaced Domínguez with the bases loaded. Jonathan Aranda hit a grounder to O'Hearn at first base, but his throw home was off target when Soto crossed his path allowing two to score for a 4-2 lead. Tyler O'Neill had a one-out double off Scott Fairbanks in the ninth and scored on Cedric Mullins' two-out single to get Baltimore within a run. Mullins swiped his 14th base before F...

San Diego Padres vs Washington Nationals July 19, 2025 Recap

Nathaniel Lowe homered and the Washington Nationals snapped a five-game losing streak Saturday with a 4-2 victory over the San Diego Padres. Mitchell Parker earned his first win at home since May 20 for Washington, which had dropped nine of 10. Martín Maldonado and Luis Arraez each drove in a run for San Diego (53-45). Lowe ripped a fastball to center field off reliever Yuki Matsui in the sixth inning for his 15th homer — one shy of his total last year with Texas. Parker (6-10) allowed two runs in six innings while striking out four. The left-hander had lost seven of his last nine starts, with the only victory in that span coming June 23 at San Diego. Kyle Finnegan worked the ninth for his 19th save. Washington went up 2-0 on Drew Millas’ two-run single in the second. The Padres evened it in the third when Maldonado’s double to deep left-center glanced off Jacob Young’s glove to bring in Jose Iglesias. Two batters later, Maldonado scored on Arraez’s single. CJ Abrams’ run-scoring groun...

Kyle Schwarber hit a grand slam in the sixth inning and Bryce Harper capped the scoring with a two-run homer in the eighth, carrying the Philadelphia Phillies to a 9-5 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday night. Schwarber’s shot to right field off reliever José Fermin was his eighth career grand slam and 32nd homer of the season. Taylor Ward and Jo Adell hit back-to-back home runs for the Angels in the fourth inning for a 3-1 lead that wouldn’t stand after Los Angeles starter Yusei Kikuchi left after five solid innings. The Phillies ruined what could have been a big inning in the first, when Schwarber and Trea Turner got caught in rundowns and were tagged out on the same grounder by Harper. Nick Castellanos followed that with a two-out, RBI single for a 1-0 lead. Los Angeles turned it around in the fourth on Ward's and Adell's home runs. Zach Neto also plated a run with a single that inning but the Angels left the bases loaded. The Phillies got a run back on Turner’s RBI...

BetRivers 200 July 19, 2025 Recap

Lest anyone doubt the all-around natural racing talent of 18-year-old Connor Zilisch, the rookie claimed a series best fourth NASCAR Xfinity Series victory on the season in Saturday’s rain-shortened BetRivers 200 at the one-mile Dover Motor Speedway. Zilisch led 77 of the race’s 134 laps in his No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevrolet before NASCAR was forced to call the scheduled 200-lap race early because of rain. A pair of Joe Gibbs Racing Toyotas, driven by former NASCAR Cup Series veteran Aric Almirola and Xfinity regular Brandon Jones rounded out the top three. Although he qualified third — three rookies topped the starting grid — Zilisch ran first or second for most of the race, ultimately taking the lead for good on the restart following the Stage 2 break. “We’ve been showing it lately,” a smiling Zilisch said when he was informed on pit road the race was official and he was the winner. “First of all, I hate that we couldn’t finish the race the right way. Aric [Almirola] was really fast...

After Jesús Sánchez was intentionally walked, López hit a drive over left-fielder Nick Loftin to score Pauley and Edwards. Anthony Bender closed with a perfect ninth for his third save. Pérez hit a leadoff blast against Miami reliever Ronny Henriquez (6-1) in the eighth to tie it at 1-all. Pérez drove Henriquez’s fastball over the wall in center for his 14th homer of the season. Cincinnati Reds vs New York Mets July 19, 2025 Recap

Jake Fraley matched a career high with three hits and drove in two runs as the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York Mets 5-2 on Saturday. On a festive afternoon at Citi Field, the Mets honored David Wright by retiring his No. 5 jersey and inducting him into the team's Hall of Fame during a pregame ceremony. They jumped out to a 2-0 lead, too, before Fraley doubled and scored on a two-base throwing error by catcher Luis Torrens in the third inning. Fraley then delivered a tiebreaking single in the fourth and a run-scoring double in the sixth for the Reds, who moved a season-high five games over .500 at 52-47. New York's first two batters reached base in the ninth, but Emilio Pagán pitched out of trouble to earn his 21st save. Francisco Lindor grounded into a fielder's choice that left runners at the corners before Juan Soto hooked a potential tying homer just foul down the right-field line. Soto was called out on a borderline check-swing for strike three, and Pete Alonso flied ...

Arozarena hit an elevated fastball from Astros left-hander Brandon Walter (1-3) out to left-center field in the fourth inning for his 18th home run of the season. In the process, Arozarena became only the second player in the majors this season with 10 or more home runs over a 14-game stretch. Designated hitter Mitch Garver doubled the Mariners’ lead in the seventh inning when he pounced on a fastball down the middle from Astros left-hander Bennett Sousa for a solo shot. Seattle broke things open with a four-run eighth inning on RBI singles from J.P. Crawford and Cal Raleigh, a sacrifice fly from Donovan Solano and a wild pitch. Castillo (7-5), in his first start after the All-Star break, struck out seven and yielded only three hits — all singles — before departing in the seventh inning. The Calgary Stampeders stand alone atop the CFL standings after their 41-20 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday night at Princess Auto Stadium. The Stamps proved their Week 5 win over Winnipeg was no fluke, delivering a complete performance to improve to 5-1, already matching their win total from all of 2024. Quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. completed 16 of his 24 passes for 267 yards, three touchdowns and an interception as he guided Calgary to its first win on Winnipeg turf since 2017 – the Bombers’ first home loss this season. Damien Alford’s two receptions were both touchdown grabs – his third and fourth in two games.  He added 79 yards to lead the team in the receiving game, and Dedrick Mills led the team on the ground with 13 rushes for 70 yards – still searching for his first 100-yard game of the season. Calgary’s defence continued to set the standard across the league, forcing four interceptions, including Damon Webb’s second pick-six of the season. Bombers pivot Zach ...

The Tigers (59-39) had a majors-high six players this week at the All-Star Game after going into the break with the best record in the majors, even after losing their last four games before that. Seager lined a ball into the right-center gap that rolled to the wall. Albies was 1 for 3 with four RBI and launched a 390-foot homer just in front of the Chop House in right to make it 6-0 in the third inning. Acuña was 2 for 3 with a double, triple and runs scored, but his best play came when he threw out Jorbit Vivas for a double play in the third inning. Vivas was trying to tag up from second base on a fly to deep in the corner in right, but Acuña's throw reached third on the fly to get a surprised Vivas, who slowed up as he approached the bag. Ian Hamilton (1-1) took the loss after leading off a bullpen game for the Yankees by surrendering three runs in the first inning. Rico Garcia, making his debut with the Yankees, gave up Albies' thr...

Kansas City Royals vs Miami Marlins July 18, 2025 Recap

Kyle Stowers hit a two-run walk-off homer in the 10th inning and finished with three hits as the Miami Marlins defeated the Kansas City Royals 8-7 on Friday night. Stowers had already tied a Marlins franchise record with his fourth home run in two games when he hit a three-run shot in the first inning. After Miami had built — then squandered — a 5-0 lead, the first-time All-Star followed with the biggest swing of the game against Carlos Estévez (4-3) that sent the winning shot 394 feet to right field. Stowers went 3 for 5 and reached base in his first two at-bats to extend his on-base streak to 10 plate appearances, also tying a club record. Cincinnati Reds vs New York Mets July 18, 2025 Recap

Austin Hays hit two of Cincinnati's four home runs and Nick Lodolo threw seven strong innings as the Reds beat the New York Mets 8-4 on Friday night. Matt McLain and Tyler Stephenson each launched a two-run shot for the Reds, who have won five of six. It was the third time this season they went deep four times in a game. After allowing Juan Soto’s first-inning homer and an RBI single by Jeff McNeil in the second, Lodolo (7-6) retired 16 of the next 18 hitters — including 10 in a row during one stretch. He finished with seven strikeouts and matched his longest start of the year. Soto’s solo drive gave the Mets an early lead in Sean Manaea’s first start this season. Re-signed to a three-year contract in the offseason, the left-hander missed the first 95 games due to an oblique strain and a bone chip in his pitching elbow. He returned with an extended relief appearance Sunday at Kansas City. Manaea gave up Hays’ first homer but struck out six over four innings of one-hit ball. He was ...

Bassitt (10-4) allowed 10 hits, struck out five and walked none in 6 1/3 innings as AL East-leading Toronto kicked off the second half by improving to 33-16 at home. Bassitt became the first major league pitcher in more than a decade to give up at least 10 hits and not allow a run. White Sox left-hander John Danks did it in a complete-game win at Houston on May 31, 2015. Brendon Little struck out both batters he faced, Yariel Rodríguez worked the eighth and Jeff Hoffman finished for the Blue Jays, who have won 14 of 18. The shutout was Toronto's seventh of the season. Verlander (0-8) allowed four runs and matched a season high by allowing nine hits in 2 2/3 innings, extending his career-worst winless streak to 16 starts. It was Verlander’s shortest outing since he went 2 1/3 innings against Seattle on April 4, h...

Los Angeles Angels vs Philadelphia Phillies July 18, 2025 Recap

Taylor Ward hit a go-ahead two-run homer, Jo Adell and Jorge Soler also went deep, and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-5 on Friday night. The teams combined to hit six home runs, but it was Ward's shot, his 22nd of the season, in the seventh that completed the Angels' comeback from a three-run deficit. Soler hit a solo homer in the second inning and Adell launched a two-run homer in the fourth. Both came off Phillies starter Jesús Luzardo, who allowed four runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out seven. Mike Trout, playing in just his sixth game in his hometown in his 15-year career, had a double and an RBI single. Harper scored both Phillies runs, the first one coming in the first when the Padres committed two...
